The first few days to a week of breastfeeding is hard! I remember having a very fussy baby that wanted feeding what seemed like 24/7.
Colostrum is that amazing ‘first milk’ that didn’t really look like milk at all. But it is milk, and full of all the best nutrients and antibodies your baby needs.
My ‘mature’ milk came in after 5 days with my first and 2 days with my second baby. I was really panicked first time around and was convinced I couldn’t make any milk. I wasn’t aware of how important constant skin to skin contact and ‘baby wearing’ was until second time around. Until I found myself baby wearing out of necessity and my milk came in so much quicker.
The let down feeling is when you get a sudden rush almost like but not as uncomfortable as pins and needles, and you can feel the milk flowing into your breasts.*
